Microsoft Entra ID security updates: Passkeys are the default authentication method in Entra ID (4 minute read)
Microsoft Entra ID will make passkeys the default authentication method starting September 1, automatically prompting users currently enabled for SMS or voice to register a passkey during their next multifactor authentication. Microsoft will retire Microsoft-provided SMS and voice authentication on February 1. Customers who still need SMS/voice can use telecom partners via the Microsoft Security Store.
